Join us in congratulating this year's winners of the Mary R Wilhelm Scholarships, Yadier Ventura (Class of 2024) and Rihana Morocho Macas (Class of 2022). Students were chosen based on their strong moral character, loyalty to the SMCA mission, and good academic standing. Awardees will receive tuition grants in the amount of $1,500 for this school year.

Honoring a wonderful mother, grandmother, and teacher, Mary Riordan Wilhelm

A special "thank you" goes out to Mr. Karl Wilhelm for sponsoring this wonderful scholarship opportunity in memory of his wife, Mary. Mary was an alum of St. Matthias School, Class of '55. She was a lifelong educator having taught kindergarten and later the three and four year olds at Ridgewood Presbyterian Nursery School. Mary served the preschool for more than forty years as teacher and director. She was a treasured resource and promoter for SMCA. Mary's life was centered around children. She had seven children of her own, all SMS graduates, and twelve grandchildren. Her advocacy for family and children is a wonderful legacy. Her smile was contagious and her love for the "little ones" was inspiring. As a faithful parishioner of St. Matthias Church, Mary served as a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Parish Council. We miss seeing her on Catalpa Avenue on her way to daily Mass. Her husband, Karl, describes her beautifully as "a woman who was extremely happy doing exactly what she thought she was meant to do: teaching and loving small children." Join us in celebrating Mary's service to our students and families through the years. May her scholarship be a reflection of her wonderful spirit.
