Principal's February Message

Dear Families,

We are approaching the midway point of the school year and now would be a good time to reflect on what we have accomplished and what still has to be done. If you feel like I do, you must be thinking “it’s only the halfway mark?”. It is; the school year is a marathon, not a sprint.

We are presently preparing for and looking forward to Catholic Schools Week, one of the most important weeks of the school year for our academy. It is our time to shine, to celebrate all that we do, and to convince other families to come see what we are all about. Attendance is encouraged at our Catholic Schools Week Mass and Open House. There will be NUT cards for all who attend and volunteer at the Open House. Our Choir has been invited to perform at the CSW Mass at 10:30 AM on Sunday, 1/28. Our Prayer Service Group has been asked to be on hand at the Open House from 11:30-3:00. Other students will be invited to be tour guides.

February 1st is Student Appreciation Day. We have Field Day activities planned for the morning and a Paint activity and Snack planned for the students for the afternoon. Pizza will also be provided for all students that day, so there is no need to send lunch.

February 2nd is Teacher Appreciation Day. There will be a school wide assembly at 8:30 AM and there will be a 12:30 dismissal to accommodate a special luncheon for our teachers and staff. There will be NO afterschool on this day.

February 7th Second Trimester Progress Reports will be sent home/ i-Ready Cycle 2 ends.

February 9th Grades 6-8 will have their dance from 7-10 PM.

Boosters are due February 13th and the drawing will be held on February 15th. There will be a $2 dress down for Valentine’s Day on February 16th, as well as a prayer service in honor of St. Valentine. Be aware also that March lunch orders close on this day.

And last but not least we have our much needed Mid-Winter Recess from February 19th-23rd.

As we embark on the second half of the year, I ask for your continued support and blessings. May St. Matthias continue to provide an exceptional educational experience to all who seek it.
