Principal's Letter
Updated: Jan 24
We are very pleased to be back in the school building to once again commence in-person learning. We are in school full days from 7:30 AM drop off through dismissal beginning at 2:30 PM. The first day of school for grades 1-8 was Wednesday, September 8th. Nursery through Kindergarten will begin on September 13th. With full-day in-person instruction, our special classes (gym twice a week, library, foreign language, art, state test prep, etc.) have been added back into the schedule. Our lunch program will also return soon and incorporate both hot and cold lunches.
Technology is an integral part of education at St. Matthias Catholic Academy. We are one to one with Chromebooks for our students. Each classroom is equipped with “Smart” technology. Many programs are used to help both advance and remediate students academically. For example, we use i-Ready to help shape our differentiated instruction so that each student’s learning style and needs are being met.
We are very excited to be reopening our Hydroponics Lab. There the students experience their curriculum through in-depth study incorporating all subjects.
Aside from a rigorous curriculum the Academy also provides afterschool clubs that help mold our students into well-rounded individuals. Some examples of after-school clubs on offer this year are robotics club, glee club, band program, sports club, step club, cinema club, piano, and Lego club.
Here are just some of the fun activities we have planned for the 2021-2022 School Year for the students and their families: Halloween Parties, Paint Night, Christmas Show, Catholic Schools Week Expo, 200 Club, Dances, Winter Carnival, Family Bingo, and Spring Musical. *(All contingent on COVID Protocols established by the Diocese of Brooklyn)
St. Matthias Catholic Academy has both an early morning drop-off (staffed by the teachers) and an afterschool program.
The school has undergone a thorough cleaning over the summer and will continue to be fogged daily to ensure a safe environment for all students, faculty and staff. We will continue taking daily precautions (daily COVID-19 screenings and temperature checks) to make St. Matthias Catholic Academy the safest environment it can be with your cooperation and through the intercession of our Saints, we can make 2021 – 2022 a healthy and successful school year for all.
We continue accepting registration for all grades Nursery through Grade 8. Please share this information with family and friends. Tours are also available. To inquire about registration and arrange an in-person tour of the school please call the school office at 718-381-8003.
*COVID-19: We continue to follow all the guidelines and protocols outlined by the Diocese of Brooklyn in conjunction with the NYC Department of Health. The school is fogged daily. There are hand sanitation stations located throughout the building as well as in each classroom.
